Living life

All things Bright and Beautiful, All Creatures Great and Small.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I awake to the chirping of the songbirds, the irritating cry of the blackbirds and with the light beginning to stream through my bedroom window. This morning’s sunrise, always different, is brilliantly orange.  I pause and decide that I must stay up and capture it on camera.

I end up enjoying  much more than the morning sun. I capture many of the wonders of the lakeside, and our little piece of paradise.

I am in awe as a tiny bush bunny arrives at the patio door, sitting looking in, then puts her paw right up to the glass. Unafraid, and not realizing I am watching, this bunny pauses for a bit to stare in the window and then hops on.

Behind our cabin two lovely doe cross majestically, slowly moving across the grass on their morning outing. They are frequent visitors, I have to be up early to see  them in the morning. Nightly they cross in front of the cabin, always pausing as they go by in front of the window. Do they know we await their visit ?

Then it is time for the beautiful white pelicans to do their dance -gliding across the sky watching the water for fish. Suddenly one will dive down into the water, gulping his prey as the other pelicans now scatter  off.

The incessant cries of the blackbirds  continue as they fight for their breakfast at the bird feeders. They are partaking of the seed that has fallen to the ground from the feeders. Seed that was put out for much more likeable birds, but the feeders don’t discriminate, and blackbirds can enjoy the easy food too.

A small squirrel sees an opportune time to climb the tree and stretch out to reach the seed in the bird feeder. He tries over and over and finally can stretch long enough to get his paw in the feeder, only to have the blackbirds scare him off.  Luckily my husband didn’t see this critter, as he guards those feeders well and blames the deer for knocking the smallest one down nightly – he will be disappointed to hear that putting the feeder up higher in the tree was to the squirrels delight ! I watched this persistent squirrel try another tree and the feeder he thinks he has placed so it won’t be knocked down.

The orange hue disappears, morning is here and the scene changes. Blackbirds fly off, my squirrel takes his feed off to his nest, the deer have long disappeared, but the lapping of the waves on the shore and the stillness of the land are still worth staying up for. Today I feel that I am truly alone with nature.

Seeing God’s wonderful creations and being a part of this busy yet quiet place, makes me feel so fortunate.  I forget the cares of the work week  behind me and soak in the beauty.

I wish you could have been here to see it  !!
